The Federal Executive Council have approved a sum of N117 billion for rehabilitation of major roads in Nigeria. The bill for the rehabilitation of major roads was approved during the FEC meeting yesterday.

The bill for the rehabilitation of major roads was presented among two other bills. A sum of #18, 923,846,198.47 is budgeted to be spent on the first set of roads.
The first set of roads to be rehabilitated are kano, jigawa and katsina linking roads, Omo-Umulokpa road, Oye-Oranta road in Anambra state, Okpoko bridge along Benue-Cross River road, Nkumi bridge linking Abia and Enugu States, and Challawa-Nunku road in Kano State.
Recall that the minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, had during a Press Briefing on the Partial Closure for Repairs and Restoration of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos earlier this year at the Ministry of Works and Housing stated that the proposed memorandum for the reconstruction of roads is N98,073,840, 842.81.
The roads contained in the memoranda are Rijiya-Gusau road in Zamfara State, Jegga-Kwana-Sanagi-Gumi road in Kebbi State, Koko-Mahuta road in Kebbi, Kuka Babbangida-Ganagara road in Katsina State, Ihiala-Olu-Umudu road, Oye-Ama-Etite -Umuawulu road in Anambra, and Bichi road in Kano State.
These roads which according to the minister had been abandoned for many years need repairs. However following the approval by the Federal Executive Council of road rehabilitation project; #18, 923,846,198.47 has been approved for the rehabilitation, an amount which is quite below the N98,073,840, 842.81 earlier proposed memoranda by the Minister of Works and Housing.
The FEC Meeting had in attendance top government officials, the vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbaji and was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
