After the Orange CAF Confederation Cup play-offs draw conducted by CAF Secretary General Hicham El Amrani and Mr Hazem El Hawary, member of the CAF interclubs Committee, on Tuesday 1st April, Cafonline.com spoke to some of the attendees for their reaction
Moussa Diakite (Mali Ambassador to Egypt)
“For sure there will be a Malian team in the group stage of the competition and that is good. In a draw of this kind you can expect any team and l think it is a good draw that has paired Djoliba and AS Real together. The two teams know each other well and l can only wish both of them the best and may the better side win. All in mali will await this big clash.”
Hany Rashad (Administration Manager, Al Ahly)
“It’s a good draw and now that we are out of Champions League we have turned our full focus on CAF Confederation Cup. We have a tough match against Difaa Hassani Jadida of Morocco. Some of the positives of this pairing are that we face a fellow North African team and this can be motivating in itself because of the regional rivalry. No Egyptian side has ever won the CAF Confederation Cup since the new format and we want to be the first to do that.”
Antonio Souare (President, Horoya AC)
“At this level you don’t have a preference of who to play. We have played North African teams with some notable successes before and being drawn against Etoile du Sahel presents another challenge which we will be prepared for. Remember Horoya won the fore-runner of this competition, (African Cup Winners Cup in 1978), so we will be competitive. We are in this competition to win it. We recently played C.S Sfaxien also from Tunisia and eliminated Raja Casablanca in the first round of Champions League this year, so you can say we are familiar with the territory and our opponents.”
