Former senator Shehu Sani is optimistic about the future of democracy in Nigeria, despite reports of preparations for a coup.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) recently claimed that the military is content and that there are no plans for a coup in Nigeria, as reported by Infostride News.
Defense Information Director at DHQ Tukur Gusau scoffed at rumors circulating on Friday that there were welfare problems within the Nigerian military and suggested that the armed forces should meddle in civilian politics.

On Monday, however, Sani posted on his social media account calling on his people to avoid promoting, begging, or encouraging a coup.
As a social critic, he argued that democracy was the best hope for achieving a more just, equitable, and affluent society.
He argued that there is yet hope for improving America’s democratic system. Within a democratic framework, the fight for a more just, equitable, and prosperous society can still be won. Friends and Countrymen: Please cease calling for, encouraging, and promoting a military coup in Nigeria.
