Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo sociocultural group, has issued a request to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party in 2023, to step down from his political career.
Ohanaeze is quoted as saying that Atiku’s longtime goal of becoming president is now doomed to failure.
This remark was made by the group while they were expressing their gratitude to the G-5 governors led by Nyesom Wike for their role in derailing Atiku’s political aspirations.

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, issued a statement that said Atiku should leave politics since he disobeyed the zoning formula during the most recent presidential election. The message was signed by Okechukwu Isiguzoro.
In addition to that, he complimented former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ayo Adebanjo, the chairman of Afenifere, for their support of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
The following is an excerpt from the statement: “We express our most sincere gratitude to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Pa Ayo Adebanjo-led Afenifere, Dr. Pogu Bitrus-led Middle Belt Forum, Pa Edwin-led Pan Niger Delta (PANDEF), and all others who stood firmly in support of Mr. Peter Obi.” Their steadfast dedication to the cause is admirable and should be commended.
“Special thanks are due to the G5 Governors, led by Nyesom Wike, for their pivotal role in derailing the presidential aspirations of Atiku Abubakar and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria, has spent his whole life working toward the goal of becoming President of Nigeria.
“It is now the appropriate time for him to gracefully retire from active politics, recognizing that his age requires this sacrifice to salvage the PDP,” the author writes. “He damaged the PDP internally in 2023 by disregarding the zoning formula that favored the Southeast and the Igbo people. He damaged the PDP externally in 2015 by aligning with the APC to remove Jonathan.”
