In a press briefing held at the national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Umar Damagum, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made startling allegations, asserting that a cabal within the Presidency is orchestrating plans to undermine the democratic rights of Nigerians.
Damagum insisted that this alleged cabal is actively working to manipulate the political landscape in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing concerns about a calculated effort to erode democracy.
According to him, the APC is allegedly involved in a scheme to “cripple democracy, overthrow the democratic rights of Nigerians, suppress the rule of law, and downgrade our nation to a fiefdom run by the whims of a cabal.”

During the media briefing, Damagum emphasized the urgency of alerting Nigerians to what he perceives as a rapid descent into totalitarianism.
He pointed to the activities of the alleged cabal within the Presidency, claiming that they are actively seeking to weaken democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary, with the aim of subverting and overturning the expressed will of Nigerians in various election matters across the nation.
This assertion aligns with earlier statements from PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba, who also accused the same cabal of attempting to push Nigeria into anarchy and totalitarianism.
Ologunagba specifically alleged that the Presidency’s cabal is utilizing institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary to instigate chaos within the country.
The PDP continues to voice concerns over what they perceive as a threat to the democratic fabric of Nigeria.
