Daniel Bwala, the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 election, has suggested that the recent Court of Appeal decision leading to the removal of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, may have implications for the outcome of the Ebonyi governorship election.
Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Bwala expressed dissatisfaction with the grounds on which Governor Mutfwang was sacked, arguing that the governor was duly nominated during the party’s primary.
The Court of Appeal had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw Mutfwang’s certificate of return and issue a fresh one to Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a violation of Section 285(2) of the Nigerian Constitution.

Bwala highlighted similarities in Ebonyi State, where the PDP and its candidate, Ifeanyi Odii, are seeking the nullification of Francis Nwifuru’s election based on non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
He claimed that Nwifuru, the ruling party’s candidate, was not qualified to contest the poll, echoing concerns raised in the Plateau case.
“If we apply the principles of the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Plateau State, then the judgment of the Appeal Court regarding the case in Ebonyi State should be predictable, except the Appeal Court will want to contradict itself,” Bwala asserted, expressing uncertainty over potential contradictions in the court’s decisions.
