ICAN Affirms Competence of Its Members

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has emphatically declared that its members, spanning across Nigeria and beyond, are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Dr. Innocent Okwuosa, the 59th President of ICAN, delivered this assertion during the annual dinner and awards ceremony organized by the Ikorodu chapter of ICAN.

Represented by Mr. Mbang Esu, the Coordinator of ICAN, Ikorodu District, Dr. Okwuosa emphasized that ICAN members are under constant scrutiny. The institute’s governing council remains vigilant and is prepared to take decisive action against any member found lacking in the discharge of their professional duties and obligations. He urged members to adhere to principles of accountability and responsibility, steering clear of unethical conduct and financial irregularities.

Dr. Okwuosa highlighted ICAN’s commitment to maintaining a reputation untarnished by financial irresponsibility, indiscipline, imprudence, or rascality, particularly in the public sector. The institute, guided by the motto “Accuracy and Integrity,” underscores its dedication to professionalism.

Shifting focus to the awards presented at the ceremony, ICAN Treasurer, Oluwatobi Abiola, explained that these accolades serve to distinguish individuals, motivating them to contribute significantly to the economy. Abiola urged governments at various levels to involve Chartered Accountants in appointments to sensitive financial portfolios, emphasizing the unique qualities they bring to the table.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hassana Silas, a female fellow of the Institute, assured that the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria would persist in efforts to increase female representation. Silas encouraged potential and aspiring female accounting students not to lose hope, emphasizing the relevance of women in the accounting world. She highlighted the achievements of women in the profession and emphasized the ample opportunities for more women to excel in this noble field.
