The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its intention to sanction the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for allegedly working against the party’s interests.
The Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, made this declaration during a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Damagum’s statement comes in the wake of a crisis in Rivers State involving Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which resulted in 25 PDP lawmakers defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Additionally, seven commissioners in the state have resigned from their positions.
The rift between Wike and Fubara reportedly revolves around the control of political structures and finances in the state.
In an attempt to reconcile the feuding parties, President Bola Tinubu facilitated a peace accord between them following a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
During the 2023 presidential election, Wike and the G-5 governors allegedly worked against the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike was said to have supported President Bola Tinubu, while former governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State backed Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State also supported Tinubu.
Damagum emphasized that the PDP would not tolerate members working against the party’s interests and vowed to sanction all those involved.
He stated, “We are not unmindful of the fact that it’s not only Wike; there are other people that have also worked against his party.
When we get to that level, we will sanction everybody. If Wike believes he is above this party, we will show him he is not above this party.”
