Following the draw of the group phase of the 2014 Orange CAF Champions League and Orange CAF Confederation Cup, Cafonline.com sampled the reactions of representatives of the participating clubs.
Patrick Banichay – General Secretary, AS Vita Club
Now that we know our opponents, we will start preparations in earnest. All the clubs at this stage deserve to be here. We are looking to forward to our home games.
Dr Hassan Ali – Director, Al Hilal
It is a fair draw. There is no weak side at this stage. All the teams are capable. We are very satisfied and I’m convinced we can do a lot in this group.
Awad Anizi – Board Member, Ahly Benghazi
The draw is a good one. It looks easy since all the teams are from North Africa. We are very familiar with the terrain. Our only worry is that we play our matches in Tunis (Tunisia) and we have two Tunisian clubs in our group. We will do our best to reach the next stage.
Frederic Kitengie – General Secretary, TP Mazembe
We are very content with the outcome of the draw. We stand a good chance. We know the Hilal team and we are hoping to reach the semis.
Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ – Head Coach Zamalek
Every team at this level is good. Zamalek has the best defense in the competition and this will be our key for success. We are yet to concede and if we keep our strength especially in the away games, it will get better for us.
Riyad Bennour – Esperance, Football Director
This is a familiar group as all the teams are from our region (North Africa). It’s good because we won’t have to travel much. But games involving North African teams are always competitive and we expect some interesting games. Our primary target is to reach the semis.
Abdul Majeed Alouni – Sfaxien football director
We expected such a draw. There are many North African teams in the group stage so to have this group is normal. We have a good chance to qualify to the semis and we will do our best to achieve that. Playing against Esperance, Entente Setif and Ahly Benghazi won’t be easy but we know them well.
Hady Khashaba – Football Director, Al Ahly
We are used to playing with Tunisian and it’s always a challenge for us. We are looking forward to a cordial atmosphere for a good competition. We have played before with Eoilte du Sahel in the recent past and know much about them. We have a good and strong team with a lot of capabilities. We also have some key players and have to put a lot of effort to achieve our target.
