Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political leaders in Kano State to embrace unity and avoid allowing political differences to divide the state.
He made the appeal on Saturday evening during a condolence visit to the Emir’s Palace over the passing of the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi.
Addressing a gathering that included Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, APC State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and prominent figures from both the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya political camps, Shettima stressed the importance of harmony in the politically strategic state.

“It is a mistake for a state like Kano, which is respected at all levels of politics, to be divided or disrupted by political disagreements,” he said.
“Kano is a model for the entire Nigeria, so we do not rejoice when we see political rifts or finger-pointing among its people,” the Vice President added.
Highlighting Kano’s pivotal role in Northern Nigeria, Shettima said, “Kano is the heartbeat of the North; whatever affects Kano affects the North.”
In a heartfelt gesture, Shettima chose to deliver his remarks in Hausa, noting his desire to communicate directly and clearly with the people.
“That is why I am delivering this message in Hausa, even though I am not a native Hausa speaker. But I have tried my best to ensure you understand me well,” he stated.
The Vice President also offered prayers for the late Galadiman Kano, expressing hope that he is granted eternal rest in paradise.
Shettima further extended condolences to families affected by recent bandit attacks in Shanono Local Government Area, where lives were lost and some individuals abducted.
“We are praying to God to grant us peace in Nigeria and across the nation,” he concluded.
