Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has declared that the Labour Party (LP) is on the verge of collapse, predicting mass defections from the party in the near future.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ozigbo, a former LP chieftain, described his defection to the APC as a strategic move rooted in the reality of Nigeria’s political dynamics.
“Labour Party is not exactly what people think it is. It’s almost in its dying days, and over time, people will see this clearly as more defections take place,” Ozigbo said.

According to him, many elected officials under the LP banner have already made up their minds to seek re-election on different political platforms.
“There is hardly any elected member of the party I’ve spoken to who intends to run under LP again. For me, Labour Party is in the past,” he added.
Defending his decision to join the APC, Ozigbo maintained that his aim was to be a catalyst for change within the ruling party.
“I’m not here to justify every action of the APC, but if this is the only option we have today, then some good people need to go in there and become agents of change. I want to be one of those agents,” he said.
Ozigbo dismissed claims that he defected to the APC without grassroots support, noting that his move generated significant political buzz.
“People said I joined APC without supporters — that’s laughable. My entry into the APC changed the political trajectory in Anambra. Nicholas joined APC before me and it wasn’t news, but since I joined, I’ve been adding value.”
Commenting on speculations that President Bola Tinubu might support incumbent Governor Charles Soludo’s re-election bid under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to weaken Peter Obi’s Labour Party, Ozigbo dismissed the idea as a political distraction.
“If Soludo wants to be in APGA, let him be APGA. This game of pretending to be APGA in the afternoon and APC at night is deceptive and weakens the party structure. APC must be strengthened, and I am committed to that,” he stated.
Ozigbo concluded by affirming that APGA, like the LP, is a party of the past, insisting that the APC remains the viable platform for political transformation in Anambra.
