Botafogo captain Marlon Freitas has come out to hail the team for reaching the knockout stage from a group that included PSG and Atletico Madrid. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, Botafogo played to win vs Atletico Madrid, and it was very heartbreaking to concede so late after giving everything to top the group of death.
Marlon added that people thought the club stood no chance against two top European teams, but they proved everyone wrong.
His words, “Sure, we wanted to win, and I think we had our chances. We knew how to defend, and I believe we deserved at least a draw. Conceding that late goal was heartbreaking because we wanted to finish top of the group.
However, we should celebrate because, before the tournament started, everyone thought we had no chance against two top opponents from major European leagues. We’ve shown the value of Brazilian football. We are champions of South America, and we deserve respect.”
