Former Senator Dino Melaye has launched a scathing attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of misleading Nigerians with empty promises while worsening the country’s socio-economic woes.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Melaye described the APC administration as directionless and deceptive, saying its so-called tough decisions have plunged the nation into deeper poverty, hunger, and insecurity.
“They are speaking in tongues. And what are they telling you? That they are taking tough decisions,” Melaye stated. “They are saying they are putting Nigerians on a top off – whatever that means.”
He alleged that the APC is deliberately subjecting Nigerians to suffering under the guise of economic reforms.

“We are taking you through rigorous struggle, hunger, malnutrition, and insecurity. These problems could be momentary, but at the end of the day, it’s not looking like we’ll be better off,” he said.
Comparing the government to a vehicle driven by someone under the influence, Melaye said the nation was on a dangerous path.
“When you have a roadmap and a GPS, you are likely to reach your destination. But the APC government is a car being driven by a drunken driver – the possibility of arriving at your destination is not there,” he asserted.
He further dismissed the APC’s slogan of Renewed Hope, saying it holds no meaning for ordinary Nigerians grappling with the harsh realities of daily life.
Melaye also criticised what he called the confusing and chaotic governance style of the APC, citing the existence of two national anthems and the circulation of multiple versions of naira notes as examples.
“In a country where you have two national anthems… where you have two types of 1,000 Naira notes, two of 500, two of 200, and two of 100 – it doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world,” he lamented.
According to the former senator, this situation has encouraged the spread of fake currency, compounding the already dire economic crisis.
“We are in an outrageously calamitous situation,” Melaye declared.
His remarks came just hours after he officially announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new chapter in his political career as he continues his vocal opposition to the ruling party.
