Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of critical portions of the Iwo-Osogbo road, citing urgent concerns over worsening conditions that have made the road nearly impassable, particularly during the ongoing rainy season.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, following widespread complaints from road users and residents in the affected areas.
According to the statement, Governor Adeleke directed the State Ministry of Works to intervene swiftly in the most damaged segments of the road as a temporary measure ahead of a comprehensive reconstruction project.

“The road now has multiple gullies and in some places appears almost split into two,” the statement read, adding that immediate intervention was necessary to ease the hardship faced by motorists and commuters.
In line with the governor’s directive, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works has dispatched a team of engineers to assess the situation and develop a targeted rehabilitation plan. The palliative works are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
Governor Adeleke also assured residents that plans for full-scale reconstruction of the Iwo-Osogbo road were already in motion, with the procurement process near completion.
“To speed up project delivery, we have decided to divide the existing contract into three lots and assign them to three different contractors, including the original firm,” Adeleke stated.
He expressed confidence that the entire project would be completed within a year once contractors are mobilised and full reconstruction commences.
InfoStride gathered that the initial contract for the Iwo-Osogbo road was awarded under the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, with only partial execution carried out based on funds available at the time.
Governor Adeleke noted that while his administration’s approach may appear slow, it was necessary to strictly adhere to due process and the state’s procurement laws.
“Our people in Iwo, Ayedire, Olaoluwa, Ejigbo, Egbedore, and Ede local government areas should be rest assured that this administration will break the jinx and see the project through to completion,” he affirmed.
Residents have since welcomed the development, expressing hope that the governor’s intervention will bring relief to the many communities dependent on the road for daily economic and social activities.
