The National Financial Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daniel Woyengikuro, has said the party could grant former President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic ticket to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview with *Vanguard*, Woyengikuro, however, noted that such a move would depend on Jonathan returning to the party and taking a more active role in its affairs.
“Is he not the best candidate for us at this moment? He is not just a former president; he is the leader of the party now,” Woyengikuro said.

According to him, aside from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Jonathan remains the next most senior political figure within the PDP.
When asked if the party would formally consider granting Jonathan an automatic ticket, the PDP financial secretary responded:
“For me, that’s what I firmly stand for. You can quote me anywhere — I want him to come. An automatic ticket for him, as it stands now. Because we must salvage both this party and the nation.”
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, has not publicly declared any intention to contest in 2027. However, his name has continued to feature in political discussions regarding the future of the PDP and the next general elections.
