As political tension mounts in Anambra State ahead of the November 8 governorship election, the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Chief Jeff Nweke, has cautioned politicians against the rising wave of derogatory statements in the build-up to the polls.
In a strongly worded statement, Nweke warned that such “legendary misspeaks” threaten unity and erode the credibility of those who engage in them.
He stressed that politics should serve as a platform for positive influence rather than a tool for character assassination.

“Politics is a natural phenomenon; it’s part of who we are,” Nweke said, echoing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s earlier view that politics should drive meaningful change. He described change as “a constant river” that washes away outdated methods and replaces them with fresh, innovative approaches.
While acknowledging that “old ways may not be entirely bad,” Nweke maintained that the quest for improvement must be continuous. He argued that having diverse ideas and strategies should be seen as innovation, not division.
The AA flagbearer urged fellow candidates to resist the temptation of inflammatory rhetoric and instead embrace issue-based campaigns that address the real needs of the people.
“Let’s stop these verbal attacks. Let’s show maturity and sportsmanship. Anambra is ready for something better, and we must rise to that expectation,” he said.
With campaign activities intensifying and political camps becoming more vocal, Nweke’s call serves as a reminder that the quest for votes should remain a contest of ideas, not a war of words.
