Popular rapper Drake has come out to look back on his high school years. He recently had his say in a new Degrassi documentary, and fans have been reacting.
Premiering on Saturday, September 13 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), “Degrassi: Whatever It Takes” centres on the beloved Canadian teen drama series and features interviews with past cast members, including Drake himself.

In a brand new trailer for the movie, Drake is seen talking about his time playing the interesting character, “Jimmy Brooks.”
According to him, his inability to fit in as a high school student made the educational experience a very uncomfortable one for him.
He stated that landing the role in the series was his saving grace at the time, and he has his mother to thank for that.
“Man, what a wild journey that started.
I didn’t have a great time in high school, I just didn’t really fit in.
One day, my mom called me and told me, ‘You got the role.’ And I just grabbed my bag and left,” he said.
From 2001 to 2008, Drake featured in 145 episodes as Jimmy, the wheelchair-bound teenager.
The role played a major role in Drake launching his successful music career, a reality that eventually forced him to leave the show and become one of the world’s biggest rappers.
“Degrassi changed the landscape of television with real, unvarnished storytelling and did it unapologetically from a teenage perspective.
I was inspired by how fearless the series was in tackling issues that others wouldn’t touch,” the documentary’s director, Lisa Rideout, added.
