The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released fresh figures on the ongoing nationwide voter registration, covering both online pre-registration and physical, in-person registration.
According to the latest weekly update from the Commission, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians have pre-registered online within three weeks of the exercise, which commenced on 18th August 2025.
Out of this number, 1,709,933 (48.24%) are male, while 1,834,917 (51.76%) are female. The data further shows that young Nigerians dominate the exercise, with 2,291,809 (64.65%) aged between 18 and 34 years, while 882,441 (24.89%) are students.

INEC also disclosed that as of Thursday, 4th September 2025, the cumulative figure for physical registration, which began on 25th August 2025, stands at 288,614 completed registrations.
Of this, 132,634 (45.96%) are male, while 155,980 (54.04%) are female. Similarly, 215,414 (74.64%) fall within the 18–34 age bracket, with 114,150 (39.55%) identified as students.
The Commission stated that from this week, it will begin presenting combined statistics of online and in-person registrations in a single graphic.
It also assured that the distribution of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability has been uploaded on its official platforms for public access.
A statement issued by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, on Monday, appreciated the positive response from citizens and organisations that have mobilised civic participation in the ongoing exercise.
However, the Commission cautioned against illegal practices, stressing that voter registration remains open only to citizens who are 18 years and above.
“It is illegal for anyone to encourage underage registration or those below 18 years of age to register in anticipation that they will attain the legal age of voting by the time the general election holds in 2027,” the statement read.
