About 792 women have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State.
The defectors were formally received in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area by the wife of the governor, Amina Umar Namadi, who described the move as a reflection of the present administration’s good leadership under Governor Umar Namadi.
She noted that the government’s programmes, particularly those targeting women and youth empowerment, had won the confidence of many citizens.

Mrs Namadi congratulated the women and assured them that the APC’s doors remain open to all who wish to join the movement for the state’s development.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
He highlighted a series of programmes and policies introduced since the beginning of the Namadi administration, stressing that Jigawa has become a model among its peers in delivering the dividends of democracy.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Amina Waina said the decision to join the APC was driven by the government’s visible commitment to supporting women across the state.
She pledged that the new members would mobilise other women to back the administration and ensure APC’s success in the 2027 general election.
