A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has appealed to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, to desist from actions that could jeopardise the survival of the party.
Momodu made the appeal on Friday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television.
According to him, Kachikwu’s role as a former presidential candidate does not confer ownership rights over the party.

“Kachikwu happens to be my very dear brother. I reached out to his office to speak to him and he gave me his reasons why he’s fighting,” Momodu explained.
He continued: “Being a former presidential candidate does not make you the sole owner of a party.
I was a presidential candidate in 2011 on the platform of the National Conscience Party, which was co-founded by the great lawyer Gani Fawehinmi.”
Drawing parallels with other political leaders, Momodu noted that even seasoned politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the NNPP and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the PDP have never claimed absolute ownership of their respective parties.
“I don’t know where this new sense of entitlement comes from, where Nigerian politicians would say they are the founders of the party.
Some people founded the PDP but today they have lost control of the party. That’s the truth,” he said.
Momodu warned Kachikwu against allowing personal grievances to destabilise the ADC, stressing the need to consolidate on the progress the party has made.
“With all due respect to my brother Kachikwu, don’t let anybody use your head to break coconut. It is not necessary.
Don’t kill this beautiful baby (ADC). It’s a new baby. And you should be happy that some people are taking your party beyond where it was,” he added.
