Popular singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about the emotional pain she endured after the leak of her private sex tape in 2021. She recently revealed that the leak left her deeply hurt at the time, and fans have been reacting.
Speaking during a new interview, Tiwa revealed that the incident, which sparked widespread reactions from fans, critics, and fellow celebrities, affected her greatly.
According to her, while her ex-boyfriend disclosed that the tape was leaked by mistake, she later found out that it was a deliberate attempt to tarnish her reputation.
Tiwa stated that she also discovered that the person she thought she was in a genuine relationship with was only her boyfriend to win a bet.
“I was hurt, and it is okay for me to say, I was hurt, I was a victim, it happened to me.
He was my boyfriend. I thought we were in a relationship and then I am hearing later that it was a bet,” she said.
Admitting that the experience was traumatic and life-changing, Tiwa noted that despite initially trying to downplay her emotions, she has since accepted the negative impact the experience had on her.
The “Somebody’s son” crooner concluded by saying that she didn’t let the experience force her to quit music; instead, she channelled her pain into her songs.
“I feel like, if I make fun of it, and I pretend like it is not really getting to me, that’s how I will deal with it. But in hindsight, did I really deal with it? I do not think so. Now I am living in the truth, in my truth, and admitting to myself that, yo, that shit hurt me.
They thought it was just dirty. And I’m like, I know what some of you guys do is even worse than this, but I was a scapegoat. And that was painful for me, man. It was really painful because they brought my son into it and said I was unfit,” she added.
