The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to name the party members allegedly pressuring him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Governor Mutfwang had recently claimed that several APC members had approached him to join their party but insisted that only divine guidance and the will of the people could influence such a move.
“It is not a lie that they are putting pressure on me. But I told them that only two people would authorise me to change my party. One is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people,” Mutfwang said.

He further alleged that “60 to 70 per cent of APC members in the state would be glad to have us in their party. They are just biting their fingers because they know I won’t join them.”
Reacting to the remarks, the state’s acting Publicity Secretary of the APC, Shittu Bamaiyi, dismissed the governor’s comments as “self-denial,” accusing him of attempting to divert public attention from the shortcomings of his administration.
Bamaiyi said if the governor had performed to the satisfaction of Plateau residents, there would be no need for discussions about defection or political alignment.
He added that the APC remains focused on providing a credible alternative to the PDP government in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
