Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has applauded the Federal High Court ruling stopping the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from conducting its planned national convention, saying the decision marks a significant step against impunity within the party.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday restrained the PDP from holding its 2025 national convention until it complies with provisions of its constitution and the Electoral Act.
The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognising any convention outcome not conducted in line with party rules.

Reacting to the judgment while addressing PDP stakeholders from 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Wike said the ruling brought mixed emotions.
“We are happy that we have fought impunity, while on another part we are not happy with what is going on in the party,” Wike said.
“It’s unfortunate that the so-called purported national convention cannot hold; it has never been this bad in the Peoples Democratic Party.”
The former Rivers State governor lamented the internal crisis rocking the party, blaming it on arrogance and failure to acknowledge the sacrifices of key members.
He urged party stakeholders to remain steadfast.
“Leadership is very important, and when certain people become arrogant and fail to recognise sacrifices, reactions are bound to arise. We must continue to stand by the truth,” he added.
