Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Ogun East Senatorial District have dismissed the purported suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel, describing it as “fake, unconstitutional, and politically motivated.”
The leaders, representing all 103 wards across the district’s nine local government areas, insisted that the alleged suspension did not emanate from the Senator’s Ward 12, but was instead linked to executives in Ward 4.
In August 2025, a Facebook post claimed that the State Executive Committee had ratified a suspension initiated by Ward 4 Excos over alleged anti-party activities by the senator.

The post also referenced a supposed report by an Investigation Committee.
Last Wednesday, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, reinforced the claim, stating that Daniel’s suspension remained in effect. Adeniran said an official letter had been sent to the APC National Chairman, accusing the senator of “continued public disregard for party discipline.” The letter, dated October 3, 2025, was reportedly signed by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and secretary, Tella Aderibigbe.
But speaking on Tuesday at a press conference titled “The State of APC in Ogun State” in Sagamu, APC leaders from Ogun East challenged the legitimacy of the suspension, describing it as a politically driven ploy ahead of the 2027 elections and the senatorial ticket for the district.
Addressing journalists, the senator’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, said there had been no official communication to Daniel regarding any wrongdoing, no petition, no invitation to face an investigative panel, and no formal suspension letter.
Oliyide questioned why the governor’s spokesperson, rather than elected party officials, was announcing disciplinary actions.
He said: “We are talking about a former governor of the state and a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Where is the state chairman? Where is the state secretary? Such announcements cannot be taken seriously, especially without any allegation, communication, panel invitation, or letter of suspension.
“Let no one be deceived — this is all connected to the politics of 2027 and the APC ticket for the Ogun East Senatorial District.”
Also speaking, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, legal counsel to the group, said a formal request had been sent to the APC Ogun State chapter demanding documents relating to the alleged suspension, including any petitions filed from Ward 4 or Ward 12 and an acknowledged copy of the suspension letter purportedly signed by the senator.
The press conference was attended by several prominent APC leaders and associates, including Oliyide; Prof. Yemi Oke (SAN); Remi Hassan; Gen. Olumuyiwa Okunowo (retd); Giwa Niyi-Osoba; Korede Okusanya; Ronke Oduneye; Barr. Babatunde Adesanya; Josephine Makanjuola; Bankole Osisanya; Wole Olubena; Abiodun Adesanya; Dele Osifade; and Ganiyat Busari, among others.
