The leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, in Jigawa State and the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has dismissed reports of mass defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
His reaction follows the announcement that the member representing Gwaram Federal Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Shitu Galambi, alongside Musa Majia and Aminu Jahun, had joined the ruling APC.
Ringim, in a statement on Thursday, described the development as misleading, insisting that the NNPP remains strong and committed to its ideals despite moves by a few individuals to switch allegiance.

He clarified that Galambi and the others were not considered genuine NNPP members.
“Galambi was originally an APC member whom we accommodated after his party denied him a ticket. We gave him the platform, and he won,” Ringim said.
He added that Aminu Jahun was “flushed out” of the PDP before joining the NNPP, but continued to maintain ties with the APC.
“Even when he was with us, we knew he had been disclosing our meetings to the APC,” he stated.
Ringim further dismissed Musa Majia’s defection, insisting that “he has never been a member of our party because he never participated in any of our activities.”
He stressed that, based on these facts, “Jigawa NNPP has never recognised them as genuine members,” and therefore, no single authentic NNPP member has defected to the APC.
The NNPP leader assured supporters that the party remains focused on building a credible political alternative for the people of Jigawa State and Nigeria.
Ringim urged members to remain steadfast and united, while advising the state government to concentrate on delivering developmental projects instead of promoting “false narratives” of opposition defections.
His comments come days after the APC claimed it received over 66,000 defectors from various opposition parties into its fold in Jigawa State.
