Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former political adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, says he wishes the president will not seek re-election in the 2027 presidential race.
Baba-Ahmed made the remark during an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television, which was monitored by newsmen.

According to him, the president has not demonstrated the appetite, energy, or drive of a leader committed to fixing Nigeria’s mounting challenges.
Baba-Ahmed, who exited the administration earlier, said he had expressed the same concern in private conversations after leaving office.
“I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027,” he said, adding that the president’s long-achieved political ambition has not translated into effective governance.
“He said Emilokan, meaning it was his turn, and truly he has had his turn. But I don’t think he has run the country well,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
He argued that the political acumen Tinubu was known for — including strategic scheming and power negotiations — has not been matched with the same urgency to deliver solutions in governance.
“The Tinubu with the hunger and brilliant intelligence for scheming hasn’t shown that same hunger to fix things,” he added.
Baba-Ahmed also highlighted that the president’s achievement of his lifelong goal to become Nigeria’s leader should naturally pave the way for fresh leadership energy in 2027.
As of press time, the presidency has not publicly reacted to Baba-Ahmed’s comment on the 2027 re-election bid or the assessment of the administration’s governance drive.
