The lawmaker representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State, Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, has said he joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) instead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to what he described as poor governance by the ruling party.
Omoruyi, who was elected on the platform of the Labour Party, formally announced his defection to the ADC on Tuesday during a press conference in Benin City.

InfoStride News reports that the lawmaker, who resigned from the Labour Party in December 2025 and was the party’s only serving member in the state, said the decision was informed by the hardship faced by Nigerians under the APC-led Federal Government.
Addressing journalists, Omoruyi said insecurity, hunger and dilapidated infrastructure had worsened under the current administration, making life difficult for citizens.
“You and I know the situation of the country right now. Our constituents are crying out there. They are not happy because of insecurity. They are not happy because there is hunger in the land. They are not happy because our roads are not motorable. You can hardly travel from one point to the other,” he said.
The lawmaker accused the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government of failing to implement the 2025 budget, alleging that only the 2024 budget was executed.
“Can you believe that last year, 2025, no budget was executed in this country? The budget of 2025 was not touched at all. So a government that fails to even implement a whole year budget, tell me, how do you expect the people to feel the impact of that authority?” he asked.
Omoruyi said the prevailing situation in the country prompted like-minded Nigerians to appeal to him to join a coalition aimed at rescuing Nigeria from what he described as the misrule of the APC.
He added that he had aligned with his constituents and other stakeholders to work towards removing the APC-led Federal Government in the 2027 general election.
According to him, his decision to leave the Labour Party was also influenced by the lingering crisis within the party at both the state and national levels.
Omoruyi pledged to work with ADC leaders, coalition partners and stakeholders to promote good governance and effective representation.
“Together, we will strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians are heard and respected,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to his constituents, the lawmaker said their trust remained his guiding principle, assuring that his defection was aimed at better serving their interests and securing a brighter future for the constituency.
