No fewer than ten political parties have submitted nominations to participate in the forthcoming Kano State House of Assembly by-elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Areas.
The Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Kano.

Zango said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had received nominations from 10 registered political parties for the exercise. The parties include the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Party (ADP), African Action Congress (AAC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dennis Labour Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Good Party, Action Alliance (AA), Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
He explained that while the nominations were submitted at the state level, the candidates’ details are being uploaded by the national headquarters of the respective parties through INEC’s online portal.
“As of the deadline, we have received nominations from 10 political parties. The uploading process is still ongoing, and the final number of candidates will only be confirmed by INEC headquarters once the process is completed,” Zango said.
The REC added that INEC deployed monitors from its national headquarters to observe the party primaries in the affected areas, noting that no irregularities were reported.
Addressing concerns over internal party disputes, particularly within the NNPP, Zango said the commission had not received any court order or official communication affecting party leadership or the conduct of primaries.
“We are not aware of any court injunction. INEC’s responsibility is guided strictly by the law and reports from duly monitored primaries,” he stated.
Zango assured voters that preparations for the by-elections were at an advanced stage, revealing that the polls would be conducted in two constituencies across Kano Municipal and Ungogo, with over 535,000 registered voters and more than 1,000 polling units.
INEC also urged eligible voters in the affected areas to turn out en masse for the elections, assuring them of adequate personnel and logistics to ensure a smooth and credible exercise.
