A forum of serving and former local government councillors in Nigeria has declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday at a press briefing in Abuja, where the forum pledged to mobilise Nigerians, particularly at the grassroots, in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Speaking on behalf of the group, President of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, Dr Evoh Ugochukwu, said the decision was informed by what he described as the administration’s commitment to local government autonomy and other far-reaching reforms.

According to Evoh, Nigeria has witnessed purposeful and forward-looking leadership since Tinubu assumed office in 2023.
“Under his administration, we have seen the restoration of local government autonomy, improved funding and accountability at the grassroots, renewed focus on rural development, expansion of social investment programmes, major investments in infrastructure and security, and strategic reforms in agriculture and economic management,” he said.
He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration has moved beyond rhetoric to deliver tangible benefits in towns, villages and wards across the country.
Evoh also commended the administration’s efforts in strengthening national security through the modernisation of the Armed Forces, improved intelligence and technology integration, enhanced manpower and welfare for security personnel, and decisive actions against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
“These interventions have restored confidence among our people and created safer environments for economic and social activities,” he added.
The National Councillors Forum of Nigeria comprises 8,809 councillors drawn from the 774 local government areas across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Stating the collective position of the forum, Evoh said extensive consultations were held nationwide before reaching a unanimous decision to back the President.
“Based on facts, evidence and the realities on ground, we have reached a clear and unanimous decision. Therefore, on behalf of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, I hereby formally declare our total, unwavering and unconditional support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027,” he said.
He further announced the commencement of nationwide mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election, calling on serving and former councillors, ward leaders, grassroots mobilisers and community stakeholders to actively participate.
“We must organise, mobilise and enlighten our people. We must take this message to every polling unit, every ward and every household,” Evoh stressed.
The statement was jointly signed by Hyacinth Horvel Turnoe, National Coordinator, ST/HT Grassroots Coordinators of Development, and Chief Okorie Ikechukwu Raphael, National Coordinator, Citizens Network for Peace and Development.
