Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will present a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the statement during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Friday, dismissing claims that the PDP may not remain a viable political force.
He expressed satisfaction with the party’s recent national convention, noting that it had put to rest doubts about the party’s survival.

“I’m happy we have been able to hold our national convention contrary to what people thought. I did tell you that PDP must stay,” he said.
The former Rivers State governor acknowledged that the party had faced internal crises but insisted that the situation has been resolved, adding that the PDP remains open to new members.
“We have had our differences and now that we have come to this point, if we are sincere, there is nothing late. We can do it together to move the party forward,” he stated.
Wike emphasised that despite challenges since losing power at the federal level in 2015, the PDP has remained relevant and will continue to play a major role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“It’s important that PDP will be on the ballot in 2027 as against pundits who have written off that PDP will not be there and we are going to make an impact.
“We will present a candidate for the presidential election,” he added.
He, however, stressed the need for party members to focus on rebuilding and strengthening the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.
