The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could face fresh legal battles over ongoing disputes surrounding court orders, raising concerns about potential disruptions to the electoral timetable.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, criticised INEC’s handling of the situation, stressing that improper interpretation of court rulings could trigger further litigation.
“INEC must be cautious in handling court orders to avoid plunging the electoral process into unnecessary legal battles that could disrupt the timetable,” Johnson said.

The warning comes amid lingering legal disputes within the NNPP, where rival factions have approached the courts over issues relating to leadership and party structure.
The internal crisis has resulted in conflicting court rulings, raising questions over which faction should be officially recognised by the electoral commission.
Johnson noted that unresolved legal disputes within political parties, if not carefully managed, could create uncertainty ahead of upcoming electoral activities and erode public confidence in the electoral system.
