The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has announced that it will conduct its governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly primary elections simultaneously on Saturday, May 30, 2026, across the 184 wards in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary in Abia State, Iroegbu Emenike.

Emenike explained that the development followed an official directive and communication earlier transmitted by the national leadership of the party to the Independent National Electoral Commission, notifying the commission of the adjustment and harmonisation of primary election dates nationwide.
The party advised members across the 184 wards in the 17 local government areas of the state to adequately prepare for the exercise.
It also assured party faithful and aspirants that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure orderly conduct of the primaries.
The Labour Party further pledged that the exercise would be credible, peaceful and inclusive in line with the Electoral Act, the constitution of the party and established democratic guidelines governing the process.
However, the statement did not indicate whether the party would also conduct a presidential primary election.
