Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has described the ongoing by-election in the Ondo South Senatorial District as peaceful and orderly, expressing satisfaction with the level of voter turnout across the six local government areas participating in the exercise.
The by-election is being conducted to fill the vacant seat left by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The election is taking place across Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Okitipupa, Irele, Odigbo and Ileoluji/Okeigbo local government areas of the state.
Speaking with journalists shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 05, Ward 4, Obenla Community in Ilaje Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa said the electoral process had been peaceful and well-organised.
The governor attributed the encouraging turnout of voters to the extensive mobilisation efforts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prof. Dayo Faduyile, as well as the party’s strong grassroots structures across the senatorial district.
According to him, the APC would continue to drive voter participation and engagement throughout the election period.
“We want to encourage everyone to come out and vote. Ondo State is safe and we are having a peaceful election. God has been helping us, and our security agencies are up and doing. Ondo State is one of the safest and most peaceful states in Nigeria.
“So, we expect a good turnout of our people even though it is a by-election. A lot of work has been done by our candidate, Professor Dayo Faduyile, and the political environment remains active even after the primary election,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The governor also commended security agencies for maintaining law and order during the exercise, expressing optimism that the election would be concluded peacefully.
