The camp of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has explained why former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is yet to be officially unveiled as the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
One of Atiku’s media aides, Abdulrasheed Shehu, said the delay was due to the former vice president’s current travel schedule.
Shehu made the clarification in a post on X on Saturday amid speculation that all was not well within the ADC and that Amaechi had yet to accept the party’s offer to serve as running mate.

Responding to the claims, Shehu dismissed the reports as false, insisting that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket had already been settled.
“Atiku/Amaechi is settled. His Excellency is on a short business trip. Once he returns, Amaechi will be officially unveiled in a few days as the VP candidate. Stop posting fake news,” he wrote.
The clarification followed growing speculation over the status of the ADC presidential ticket after the party concluded its candidate selection process for the 2027 general election.
While reports had earlier linked Amaechi with the vice-presidential position, the absence of an official unveiling fueled uncertainty and conflicting claims regarding the arrangement.
However, Atiku’s camp has maintained that the former Rivers State governor remains the party’s choice for the position and will be formally presented upon the presidential candidate’s return.
