The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved its Kano State executive committee and appointed a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.
The party’s Deputy National Chairman (North-West), Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed, announced the decision during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano on Monday.

Mohammed said the move was in line with the ADC constitution, the Electoral Act and the party’s responsibility to safeguard its future in Kano State.
She explained that the decision was not based on personal preference but on constitutional obligation.
“This important action is not out of preference, but out of constitutional duty. Every action taken has been guided by the Constitution of our party, the Electoral Act, and our collective responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State,” she said.
According to her, the party’s constitution provides a lawful framework for restoring stability, ensuring continuity and preventing disruption whenever a leadership vacuum arises.
She noted that the national leadership acted to preserve the unity, continuity and constitutional integrity of the party in Kano, stressing that no responsible political organisation could allow uncertainty to undermine its structure.
Mohammed, however, urged members not to view the caretaker committee as a reflection of the commitment or loyalty of party members in the state.
She commended members for their sacrifices in building the ADC at the grassroots and appealed to stakeholders, including elders, youths, women leaders, ward executives and other members, to support the caretaker committee.
She called on party faithful to embrace dialogue, unity and the collective interest of the ADC, expressing confidence that the transitional arrangement would strengthen the party’s institutions and restore confidence ahead of future political activities.
The ADC is part of the opposition coalition backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid for the 2027 general election.
