The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed reports claiming that it failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal before the deadline for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the LP described the reports as false and misleading.

According to the party, it successfully uploaded the names of all its officially nominated candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections before the INEC portal closed on July 14, 2026.
“This assertion is unequivocally false, misleading, and exists solely in the minds of those spreading this false information,” the statement read.
The party explained that the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates were uploaded on July 10, 2026, four days before the deadline.
“To clarify, the Labour Party successfully uploaded the names of its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates on July 10, 2026, a full four days before the INEC nomination window closed on July 14, 2026. The process was executed smoothly and in complete adherence to the Commission’s guidelines,” the party stated.
The LP also criticised media organisations that published the report without seeking clarification from the party leadership, especially when the information was allegedly sourced from an anonymous INEC official.
The party noted that INEC had already released its timetable for the publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections and expressed confidence that the commission’s publication would confirm the submission of its candidates’ names.
“Once the Commission publishes this list, Nigerians will clearly see the names of all duly nominated candidates from various political parties, including those of the Labour Party, thus dispelling this unfounded misinformation,” the statement added.
The Labour Party urged its members, supporters and the public to disregard the report, insisting that the party had complied fully with INEC’s nomination requirements.
