Anti-Tinubu Sentiment Ahead of 2027 Is Unprecedented — Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said the level of opposition to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election is unprecedented.

Momodu made the remark during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni while discussing Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election.

The former presidential candidate argued that the president would first need to meet the constitutional requirement of securing at least 25 per cent of the votes in the required number of states.

According to him, Tinubu must also secure the minimum number of states needed to emerge winner of the presidential election.

“What he needs to win is first to do 25 per cent, which is mandatory. It’s about the overall majority; once he can meet that target of minimum 25 states, I don’t see how he won’t get it this time. The hatred for Tinubu is unprecedented,” Momodu said.

He further claimed that many Nigerians, including some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), are opposed to the president.

“The majority of the people are opposed to him right now, including people within his own party,” he stated.

Momodu also alleged that Tinubu no longer enjoys the level of support he received from Northern Nigeria during the 2023 election.

“The last time he won because he was able to do well courtesy of the support from the North. Now he doesn’t have that support, and he doesn’t have it in the South,” he said.

Referring to Osun State, which he described as Tinubu’s ancestral home, Momodu claimed that the president was rejected there in the last election and would face a similar outcome in 2027.

“Osun State, where he comes from, his ancestral home rejected him last time, and I know they will reject him again,” he added.
