The National Chairman of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prof. Sodiq Gombe, has attributed Nigeria’s challenges to poor leadership, urging young Nigerians to take advantage of the 2027 general elections to change the country’s political direction.
Gombe made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking on the state of the nation ahead of the next general election.
According to him, leadership failure remains the country’s greatest problem, adding that character deficiencies among those in key positions have undermined governance.
He alleged that many leaders in the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary lack the character required for effective leadership, a situation he said has allowed unqualified individuals to occupy public offices.
The SDP national chairman said the 2027 elections present an opportunity for Nigeria’s youthful population to reshape the country’s future through the ballot.
He urged young people to actively participate in the electoral process and use their votes to bring about positive change.
“The youths can make a difference in the coming 2027 general elections,” Gombe said.
“Leadership is our major problem in this country. When you don’t get it right at the level of leadership, you are not going to get it right at any level or in any sphere of human endeavour,” he added.
