Kenneth Okonkwo attacks Wike over comment on Amaechi’s political relevance

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his remarks about the political relevance of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Okonkwo faulted Wike’s assessment of Amaechi’s political strength, describing the minister’s comments as an attempt to undermine the former Rivers State governor’s influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC chieftain argued that Amaechi remains an influential political figure whose contributions to national politics cannot be dismissed.

He questioned Wike’s basis for suggesting that Amaechi lacked the political capacity to influence the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

Okonkwo also maintained that Nigerian voters would ultimately determine the political fortunes of candidates and political parties, rather than individual politicians making predictions about their opponents.

He urged political leaders to focus on presenting their programmes and convincing Nigerians instead of attacking one another.

The exchange adds to the growing political disagreements among opposition figures and former allies as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo said the opposition would remain focused on mobilising Nigerians and building a strong political platform capable of challenging the ruling party at the polls.
