The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and details of their candidates for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The decision was taken to give political parties additional time to complete the nomination and submission process in line with the electoral timetable.

The extension covers the submission of candidates for the governorship and State Assembly elections scheduled to hold in 2027.
INEC said the adjustment was necessary to accommodate the activities of political parties and ensure that the nomination process is concluded properly ahead of the elections.
The commission has continued to engage political parties on the procedures and requirements for submitting candidates, including the electronic transmission of relevant nomination details.
Political parties are expected to take advantage of the extended period to resolve outstanding issues surrounding their nominations and ensure that all required information is accurately submitted.
INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting the 2027 elections in accordance with the Electoral Act and other relevant legal provisions.
The commission also urged political parties to adhere strictly to the revised timetable and avoid submitting inaccurate or incomplete information that could affect the nomination process.
