A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has insisted that no individual has the right to claim ownership of the party, describing it as a political organisation belonging to its members.
George made the statement while reacting to the leadership crisis and internal disagreements that have continued to affect the opposition party.
He argued that the PDP was established as a collective political platform and should not be controlled or treated as the personal property of any individual or group.
The former deputy national chairman stressed that party leaders must respect its constitution and established structures when addressing disagreements.
According to him, the survival of the PDP depends on its ability to maintain internal democracy, discipline and respect for its members.
George urged party leaders and stakeholders to put aside personal interests and work towards resolving the disputes threatening the unity of the party.
He warned that continued internal wrangling could weaken the PDP ahead of future elections and reduce its ability to effectively challenge rival political parties.
The PDP chieftain called for dialogue among the various factions, insisting that the party’s collective interests should remain above individual ambitions.
He maintained that no member, regardless of position or influence, should regard the PDP as a private enterprise or personal possession.
