Former Senate President David Mark has warned political leaders against using state institutions to manipulate the 2027 general elections.
Mark said government agencies and other public institutions must remain neutral and operate within the provisions of the law throughout the electoral process.

The former Senate President made the call while discussing preparations for the 2027 elections and the need to protect Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
He warned that the use of government institutions to target political opponents or influence electoral outcomes could undermine public confidence in democracy.
Mark urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other relevant institutions to discharge their responsibilities professionally and without political interference.
He also called on political parties and their candidates to respect the rules governing elections and avoid actions capable of compromising the process.
According to him, credible elections require a level playing field where all political parties and candidates are given equal opportunities to compete.
The former Senate President stressed that Nigerians must be allowed to freely choose their leaders without intimidation, manipulation or undue influence.
Mark urged stakeholders to prioritise the stability of the country and protect democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 elections.
He maintained that the credibility of the electoral process would depend largely on the independence and professionalism of institutions responsible for conducting and securing the elections.
