Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has pledged that his campaign for the 2027 presidential election will be based on issues rather than ethnicity or religion.
Obi said his political movement would seek to unite Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines while focusing on challenges affecting citizens.

The former governor outlined a strategy aimed at reaching different parts of the country and engaging voters across the various geopolitical zones.
He said the campaign would focus on issues such as economic development, security, education, healthcare, employment and poverty reduction.
Obi stressed the need for Nigerians to move beyond ethnic and religious considerations when choosing political leaders.
He maintained that the country’s challenges require competent leadership and a clear development plan rather than politics based on identity.
The former presidential candidate also called on his supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid statements or actions capable of creating division.
He said his campaign would seek to engage young people, professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders across the country.
Obi urged Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and carefully evaluate the programmes and track records of candidates ahead of the election.
He expressed confidence that a campaign centred on competence, accountability and national unity could attract support across the country’s geopolitical zones.
The development comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
