The Presidency has criticised the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of hypocrisy and misleading Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, said Atiku’s position on the removal of fuel subsidy amounted to an attempt to appeal to voters through what he described as populist promises.
Dare said true leadership required the courage to defend difficult economic reforms, even when such policies were unpopular.
He described Atiku’s alleged hypocrisy as an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerians who are currently facing global economic challenges.
The presidential aide also expressed confidence that Atiku’s political strategy would fail at the 2027 election.
Dare stated that Nigerians should reject what he described as political innuendo and focus on policies capable of addressing the country’s economic challenges.
The exchange comes amid growing disagreements between Atiku and the Tinubu administration over the removal of fuel subsidy and other economic policies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
