2027: APC Chieftain Warns Wike Against Bringing PDP Dispute Into Party

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Farouk Aliyu, has warned Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, against actions capable of creating divisions within the ruling party.

Aliyu issued the warning while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, amid growing disagreements between Wike and some APC governors ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, despite serving in the APC-led Federal Government, has recently criticised some APC governors, describing them as “lazy” and “419ners.”

Reacting to the comments, Aliyu said the APC would not allow Wike to replicate within the ruling party the kind of internal conflict he was involved in during his time in the PDP.

“When Wike was doing that to his party, PDP, that’s his party really, but now this is our own party.

“So just because he did it to his party, you think we should condone doing it to our party? No, we will not condone it,” he said.

The APC chieftain stressed that Wike’s previous political activities within the PDP could not be used as a basis for permitting similar conduct within the APC.

He, however, said he was not personally opposed to Wike and acknowledged the minister’s role in supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

Aliyu also said he was unaware of any opposition within the APC to Wike’s appointment as FCT Minister, adding that he believed the minister had performed well in office.

“I and so many of us are not part of those that are not happy with Wike, or because he became a minister of the FCT,” he said.

He added that Wike’s contribution to the electoral fortunes of the APC-led government should be recognised, but maintained that such support did not give him the authority to create divisions within the ruling party.

Aliyu called on President Tinubu to intervene in the disagreement and engage Wike and other APC leaders to prevent the dispute from escalating publicly.

The remarks came as tensions between Wike and some APC governors continue to generate political debate, particularly over the minister’s support for the president alongside his continued association with the PDP and his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
