Kano Bye-Election: Police, INEC Confirm Smooth Voting in Dawakin Kudu

The Kano State Police Command and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have reported a smooth and peaceful voting process in the ongoing Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, alongside the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango, and members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, monitored the exercise across several polling units in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area on Saturday.

The monitoring team assessed the deployment of security personnel, the conduct of INEC officials and compliance by voters with electoral guidelines.

The police command said voters were conducting themselves peacefully and orderly, while security personnel maintained professionalism and neutrality at the polling locations.

“As at the time of this report, the electoral process is proceeding smoothly, with voters turning out in an orderly manner and security operatives maintaining neutrality and professionalism across all polling locations,” the command said.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner commended the police and other members of the ICCES for their cooperation and efforts towards ensuring a peaceful atmosphere throughout the exercise.

According to the police, Zango also praised the security agencies for what he described as their synergy, professionalism and proactive measures during the election.

Bakori assured residents that security personnel would remain deployed until the completion of the collation of results and the official declaration of the election outcome.

The Dawakin Kudu State Constituency election is among the bye-elections conducted across several states on Saturday, with security agencies and electoral officials monitoring the process to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.

The peaceful conduct reported during the exercise is expected to provide further experience for electoral stakeholders as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections, particularly in the areas of security coordination, voter compliance and effective election management.
