2027: Sowunmi-Kolapo Urges Ogun Voters to Collect APC Money, Vote PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State, Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo, has urged residents to collect any money offered to them by members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, but vote for the PDP in the 2027 general election.

Sowunmi-Kolapo made the call on Friday at a community stakeholders’ meeting in Obantoko, Odeda Local Government Area of the state, where she criticised what she described as economic hardship affecting residents.

She said residents should protect their votes and reject any attempt to influence their choices through financial inducements.

“Let your votes be massive and protect your votes. Stand by your votes. There will be security provisions. They may want to offer you money, the money is yours, take their money and vote for Ladi. This suffering is enough,” she said.

The PDP candidate also urged residents to support the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, while describing him as someone who had supported people in the state during difficult periods.

She recalled the COVID-19 period, asking residents to identify individuals who supported them despite not holding public office or having access to government funds.

“If we allow strangers to rule over us, then we have allowed calamity. We want to protect our heritage,” she said.

Also speaking, PDP Deputy State Chairman Abiodun Ogunremi urged residents to reject what he described as attempts to impose candidates on the people of Ogun State.

He asked voters to examine the backgrounds and connections of political candidates and resist intimidation during the election.

A member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Fasiu Bakenne, also called on residents to resist intimidation and support the party’s candidates during the 2027 elections.

The PDP House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, Dele Olaleye, said an Adebutu-led administration would pursue local government autonomy in Ogun State.

The meeting was attended by residents from communities including American Junction, Asalu, Akete, Akinyele, Akepe Oluwa and Kangudu, with PDP leaders calling for greater grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.

The remarks come amid increasing political activities in Ogun State as parties intensify grassroots mobilisation and campaign preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
