APM’s Adamu Yakubu Wins Sakwa Constituency Bye-Election in Bauchi

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Adamu Yakubu of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, winner of the Sakwa State Constituency bye-election in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Yakubu emerged victorious after polling 8,515 votes in the election conducted on Saturday.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate came second with 3,771 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secured 2,076 votes.

The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, polled 727 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Muhammad Sabo of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, announced the result after the collation of votes from the constituency.

Sabo said Yakubu had scored the highest number of votes cast by the electorate, declaring him duly elected to represent the constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

The result made Sakwa the only constituency among the five bye-elections conducted across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states where the APC did not emerge victorious.

The APC won the other four contests, including the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano, Disina State Constituency in Bauchi and Udu State Constituency in Delta.

In the separate Disina constituency election in Bauchi, APC candidate Yakubu Ali defeated his closest challengers with 5,846 votes, while the APM candidate scored 5,225 votes and the PRP recorded 3,701 votes.

The bye-elections were conducted as part of efforts by INEC to fill vacant legislative seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The outcome of the Sakwa contest gives the APM representation in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, while the result of the wider bye-election exercise provides INEC and political parties with additional experience in election logistics, voter mobilisation and the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System ahead of the 2027 polls.
