2027: NDC Moves to Inaugurate Obi-Kwankwaso Campaign Council

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, following consultations among its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the party leadership.

According to the statement, Obi and Kwankwaso have been given the authority to nominate key officials of the campaign council in consultation with the party leadership.

The positions include Director-General, Deputy Director-General for the North, Campaign Spokesman, Deputy Spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.

The party said a comprehensive organogram for the campaign structure had been developed since August and made available to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input, while nominations had also been received from stakeholders across the country.

The NDC said it would announce and inaugurate the campaign council after receiving the inputs of the presidential candidate and his running mate.

The inauguration was initially scheduled for the first week of September but was postponed due to Obi’s travel schedule.

The party also disclosed that a campaign timetable had been proposed, while arrangements for funding and fundraising were being concluded.

It said funds raised would be paid into the presidential campaign account and managed by officials nominated by Obi, Kwankwaso and the party’s National Treasurer, in line with transparency and accountability requirements.

Meanwhile, the NDC urged its candidates and support groups to avoid internal disputes and concentrate on preparations for the 2027 elections.

The party said its state and local government chairmen had also been directed to meet with candidates and stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of party agents for the forthcoming elections.

Two sets of agents are to be prepared, one for the National Assembly elections and another for the governorship and State Assembly elections. The lists will be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including Obi and Kwankwaso, before training begins.

The NDC directed that the exercise be completed and the final lists submitted within two weeks, as the party moves to strengthen its campaign structure and electoral preparations ahead of the 2027 polls.
