The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Enugu State has commended the peaceful conduct of the state’s local government elections while raising concerns over alleged denial of access to some of its officials in parts of the state.
The party’s state chairman, Dr Johnpaul Ani, spoke after casting his vote at Unit 002, Amaetiti Town Hall, in Nkanu West Local Government Area.

Ani described the voting process in his polling unit and the wider Nkanu West area as peaceful, orderly and credible.
He also commended the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, for what he described as a hitch-free exercise in areas monitored by the party.
However, the NDC chairman said the party received reports that some of its officials were prevented from accessing local government council headquarters in Aninri, Nkanu East and Isi-Uzo, where election materials were reportedly being distributed to wards and polling units.
He urged ENSIEC to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action against anyone found responsible.
Ani further said the party received reports that election materials had not reached some polling units in the affected areas as of the time he spoke.
He noted that the situation was different in Nkanu West, where, according to him, election materials were delivered to all polling units.
The NDC said it deployed agents to areas where it fielded candidates to monitor the voting, counting and movement of results to ward collation centres.
Ani expressed confidence in the party’s candidates but said the NDC would await the official declaration of results by ENSIEC before deciding on its next steps.
The chairman urged the electoral commission and other stakeholders to ensure that the remaining stages of the process are conducted transparently and in accordance with established electoral procedures.
